HERD SHARES!!

Bonnie and I sat outside today after lots of pie making to have a tall glass of creamy raw milk! Bon bon lapped some up in a bowl.

We are happy to announce that we are purchasing a healthy new Guernsey cow who is pregnant!! Come January there will be a Guernsey calf roaming around on wobbly new legs!

Stay tuned for updates on our potential Thursday drop off site. As we continue to grow, we can afford to make things more convenient on herd share holders.

Another event to keep on your radar: Faith Farm invites everyone out to visit the farm and meet our happy animals. There will be a giant pot luck and pig roasting! We are hoping to nail down the date very soon but it's predicted for the 1st weekend in November. More soon!

I also nibbled on tasty chocolate treats from Chocolate Cravings, LLC. Kathy, the creater and baker behind Chocolate Cravings is our neighbor at the Byrd House Market every Tuesday. We love picking up her sweets for the ride home at night.

The Lawler Story...

We consider ourselves “New Generation” Farmers. At the age of 53 we had no time to fool around… We sort of fell into this farm thing and if we were going to do it,we needed to do it right. Basically Paul and I purchased the farm in May of 2004, sold our house on The Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2005 (Waterfront home, no less) and began a year of learning. We attended every class our local Agriculture Extension office offered and traveled to meet with farmers/producers that were doing things “The Right Way”, and actually making a living. We then purchased our livestock from a gentlemen farmer who was retiring. So here we go…. 50 head of cattle, 50 + hogs, couple of hundred chickens with the idea that we would produce healthy food in a clean & environmentally friendly atmosphere. So we had the product, now we had to market it. Our first farmers market, August 2006, was at the 17th Street Market in Richmond, then at the Lynchburg Community Market. We really enjoyed meeting folks, and learning from them.So we can’t tout 100 years of experience, but we are dedicated and committed to the idea of sustainable farming. Our story is simple and short but strong in faith of our Lord Jesus Christ who sustains us.( FAITH FARM) The belief in hard work and a deep love, respect and appreciation for each other. We are excited about what the future holds in store for us.

HERD SHARE INFORMATION:

In the state of Virginia it is illegal to buy and sell raw milk but it is not illegal to drink fresh milk from a cow which you own. Think of it - owning your own cow and boarding it @ a local farm. You can visit your cow most any time . The farmer performs a service for you by feeding, caring and milking your cow. You benifit by being able to utilize your milk. This is called cowboarding.

The cost to purchase a share will be a one time charge of $100.00 for a whole share and $50.00 for a half share for the life of the cow.

The cost for Faith Farm to milk and board your cow will be $35.00 per month for a full share which will entitle you to 1 gallon of unpasturized raw milk per week or $18.00 for a 1/2 gallon unpasturized raw milk per week.

If you want your milk delivered to our drop off locations,

the cost will be $5.00 1/2 share, $10.00 Full share
