When we say free range, we're not joking around

Last week when Erin was in town Paul coerced our thirty four year old (with the bribe of free kefir and eggs) in exchange for helping move our laying hens to a new pasture. Being a Jersey girl, Tristan had to show his 'E' the ways of farming and that gathering the chickens to their coop isn't as easy as it looks. 

In order to make the transition from one pasture to another work all the chickens have to be moved in unison before they reach their new stomping grounds. They aren't the most adaptable to change because it typically takes a few days for them to beginning laying eggs again. Sometimes we think they resent the move and are holding out on us. But when you want farm fresh eggs you do what you have to do : )

Ricotta....gone wild!

Fresh guernsey milk and a little time & patience and you have yourself a fresh batch of AMAZING farm fresh ricotta. This is only being written because my daughter is here. She is making me do this. I'm not kidding. You're laughing. It's true. 

But with positive peer presuure good things CAN happen and hopefully, we can begin the process of letting you into our daily world here at Faith Farm. Yes, this was said appx. four years ago...nobody's perfect.

There is art, beauty and color here on Faith Farm. As their daughter....I can tell you a picture cannot truly capture this place. It's awesome. And I am proud of what they have accomplished. I promise pictures await...after I leave, that's another story.... : )

February baby calfs born on Faith Farm

                               Flame the Jersey bull calf is searching for his first meal in the wrong place.

         Rosco the Holstein/ Angus bull calf is the result of my neighbor's Angus bull who jumped the
         fence to service Flossie then jump back over the fence unnoticed.

Megan has black rings around her eyes and is due to calf in September.

             Peaches is due in May was named by Tristan and is the sweetest of all the cows in the herd.

Flossie the Holstein above, Gertie the Guernsey to the left and Betsey the Jersey below are all due to calf the month of January.

Christmas @ Faith Farm

 Christmas @ Faith Farm always consists of the official cutting of the Christmas tree with Erin, Jessie, Tristan and Gabe from the back part of the farm. A few red ribbons, tinsel, a string of  lights on a fresh cut cedar tree and a 5 gallon bucket for water puts it all together.

                                           

Erin's arrival completes our Christmas holiday with her cheerfulness, love for our family and her Hi octane energy playing with Tristan and Gabe. Starting early chopping down the Christmas tree, stacking the porch with firewood, building and painting the boys cardboard space shuttle. She is one special Auntie E to the boys as they follow her around from the time she arrives till the moment she rolls down the drive back to Jersey. This photo of her on top of the hay bale with outstretched arms makes you want to just hug her to pieces.

Gabriel almost always has a smile to brighten your day.

Merry Christmas from Faith Farm.

Trying to keep this blog up is not so easy. I'll just give you all an
update as to our goings on. The New Year will bring 3 baby calves
in January.  Flossie ,Betsy, Gertie  will be ready to calf in the next weeks.
Big Momma,Megan,Sunflower and Peaches are supplying your milk.
At the end of January we will be milking 7 cows!!!!Need to spread the word
and sell more Herd Shares.
We will be at Byrd Market every Tuesday 3:00-5:45, beginning Jan 5th Thursdays to be at
TriCycle Gardens 4:00-6:00, and Saturdays, looking into  the Great Big Green House .
We will not be participating in the winter market at Forest Hill.
